What is glycerin?
Glycerin is one of the most widely used humectants in moisturizing formulations, both for its effectiveness and safety. It is also suitable for all skin types. It occurs naturally in animals and plants. Its origin can be diverse: from plant, animal, or even synthetic sources.
Properties and benefits of glycerin
It is a compound that, due to its molecular structure, has a hygroscopic nature: it helps absorb moisture. On the skin, glycerin helps protect it from damage thanks to its occlusive-emollient properties, hydrates the skin, and acts as a humectant. It helps prevent transepidermal water loss and retains water in the skin.
